The last third of this sequel was fantastic, but as a whole, 'Iron Man 2' couldn't quite live up to expectations. (Paramount Pictures/aceshowbiz.com)
The recent Chris Nolan films aside, when I go to the theater for a comic book movie, I just expect a hell of a lot fun throughout. Now, does that mean no plot at all? Absolutely not, a good plot is very, very necessary. But at the same time, I don’t exactly want to sit through an hour and a half of mostly dialogue. Unfortunately, Iron Man 2 was just that. For the first two-thirds of the sequel, it was far too heavy on plot, and pretty dry overall. Even the humor and cool technology that made the original so great got a bit stale after a while. The last 40 minutes, or last third of the movie, was terrific. It featured the non-stop action, the funny one-liners, and clever plot twists (!). It was a little to late to save it from being just OK, but even though Iron Man 2 didn’t live up to the standards, it was pretty fun. Nothing more though, nothing less. And my lord…Scarlett Johansson is worth the price of admission, wow.
